The Easiest Floor Ever!

It has been a busy time here in Tucson. In between chemo and appointments for me, we have worked on our new floor. I think chemo effects people in different ways. Joe's energy comes...we work about 2 to 3 hours, then his energy goes. We have been patient with ourselves...unlike days past when we would put in an 8 hour day to finish projects in a timely manner. It has been 18 days and we are finished! Well, except for a few small places that need grouting.

I had to find pictures in the archives to show a before. Look closely to see the carpet in front of the sofa and under the TV. All that carpet was removed. We did leave the carpet on the slide under the kitchen table and chairs and under the sofa.

Also, we made a straight cut just under the captain and passenger chairs...we left the carpet in the cab of the bus.

Our floor of choice was an Allure product we found at Home Depot. It runs about $50 a box which has 8 interlocking 12"X36" pieces.

This shows the old linoleum that was under the carpet and the cut we made in the carpet to separate the living space and cab space. Our new floor was placed on top of the linoleum.

All done here!

The easiest floor ever...maybe if it is installed in a large square room. We have lots of angles and curves in Belle...not so easy!

A big plus though, is that the tiles can be scored with a razor on the back and snapped apart for odd sizes. It is a floating floor...it sticks to itself and no glue was needed.

And yes, that's a large bottle of Tylenol  on the counter!

We made several trips to find a 4X6 rug to put in front of the sofa...mostly for Sally!  First one we found at Target...nice price, but decided it was too light for 16 paws and 4 feet. We found another one at Pier 1...perfect pop of color. But it was a loop pile and after about 3 hours, the loops were pulling out. Not puppy friendly!

Too bad girls...this one went back too!

Well, now we have a rug on order from Lowes. Should be here by the 30th. My fingers are crossed!
Until then, a blanket will do.

Dover did a great job over-seeing our project!

We have no real blog worthy news. In our down time we have enjoyed naps, the patio and walking the pups! Not very exciting!

Happy Thanksgiving...we sure have a lot to be thankful for!

Until next time, take care and

happy tails...umm, I mean trails!

  2. The floor is looking great. This will be a project for us one day. Find a rug the right size and pattern is a problem even without paws:) Please show is the completed project. Good that Joe is taking his time.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you:)

    1. Thanks Pam...definitely not a project we would have picked to do during chemo, but now that it's practically done...we are glad!

  3. I've gone thru three sets of throw rugs in three years. The first were too light, and showed the dirt after a few days. The second was a solid dark brown, showed every tiny speck of whitish debri and never looked clean. I now am using two of the smallest dark brown and one mixed color rug. Not excited, but the mixed color seems to hold up visually.

    1. Hello Merikay...what is it with area rugs? We have also been thru several in the past few years and just can't find the right texture or color. I am hoping the one from Lowes will do the trick!

  4. Nice job on the floor. I just can't imagine having 16 paws traveling with me. Emma's four are enough for me. ;)

  5. I had a very close friend go through chemo. It does affect people differently. Hopefully, this time will be behind you soon and you'll be fit as a fiddle again.

    Love the floor!

  6. Nice job! It's good to learn your limits and let them guide you, isn't it. The recovery time from overdoing is just too much, especially if you are going through something intense like chemo.

  8. We hope you and Joe have a wonderful Thanksgiving! The floor looks wonderful! We pulled up the carpet in our condo and replaced it with hardwood. We quickly decided we had somehow gotten old! It took is several days to get over the aches and pains. Will you be heading this way anytime?

    1. Hey Robbye...but weren't you quite proud of yourselves!
We haven't decided yet when we will be back your way. A lot depends on Joe and how close he needs to be to either Grand Junction or Tucson for medical reasons. Have a great thanksgiving...are you at the beach?

  9. Floor looks great! You have more nerve than I do. I'd like to replace the both the carpet & tile flooring in our rig but I'm leary of tackling the project myself. Funny thing is, I wouldn't have given it a second thought when we lived in our house. I'd have jumped right into the project. Projects in the fifth wheel intimidate me so kudos to you & Joe. Hope you both have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.
