Leaf Peeping

Portal RV Resort
Moab, UT
September 30, 2014

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and positive thoughts concerning Joe. We did have a slight set back due to an infection. But all is good now. Today he had his second round of chemo, pizza for supper, and is sleeping like a baby. We have been very fortunate to have had friends Lynn and Dave just a few sites down from us for the past month. Dave graciously volunteered to give up a whole day to take Joe for his first chemo. Dee has been right next door... keeping a check on us also. They have provided meals, support, motivation and encouragement, laughter, shoulders to lean on and hugs.

Enough of that...back when we first arrived in August, the one thing I really wanted to do was see the aspens in color on the LaSal Mountains.

Dee led in Thumper, we drove saddle and Lynn and Dave were tail gunner in Rockhell ( named after another beautiful red-head - Raquel )
Last Monday, after a very wet week-end, we loaded up to go leaf peeping with Dee and Lynn and Dave.

Joe and I have driven several trails thru the LaSals. But one we had never done before was LaSal Loop and Geyser Pass. Both trails are in the Guide to Moab, UT Backroads and 4-Wheel Drive Trails by Charles Wells. This was our first trail since the end of August...it felt so good to be out and about.

Until next time...

 happy trails!

  1. Having friends to lean on is one of life's treasures. Glad to know that there are someone out there that you can turn to if need be. Also happy to hear that Joe is taking things in stride and on the road to recovery and on the road to fall colors. I also hope that you are okey Gay and this post is telling me so as your pictures are popping out like crazy!

Wow, Wow. Are the trees really blue?

    1. They do look blue don't they MonaLisa? Actually they are a bluish green. The clouds and lack of sun makes them look darker and bluer than they really are.
      Thanks MonaLisa...

  2. I'm happy you have good friends near by. I didn't know Joe had to go another round. I understand it can really drain a person.

I miss my White Mountains so much and sure miss the changing of the leaves. You pictures made me happy. thank you for sharing.
    My best wishes to Joe

  4. Wow! Such colors! Steve and I have seen color on our drive from South Dakota but I'm not sure we've seen anything to compare with the colors in Moab.

You and Joe are in our thoughts and prayers. So glad you have friends close by!

    1. I was very pleasantly surprised at all the color Joan. Riding across the summit was quite exhilarating and chilly...36 degrees!

  5. We have been blessed to see the Aspens up close at Cedar Breaks, and now in Colorado this year, and from a distance ever since we entered Utah a few weeks ago. Reminds me of my four years living in Utah many many years ago. Glad Joe is doing well. Take Care. --Dave (GoingRvWay.com)

    1. Aspens have become my favorite tree Dave. They are just beautiful in all seasons. This was my first time to see them in the fall...what a show they put on!

  6. Welcome back to blogger land Gay. We missed you, Joe & the fur crew. We are thrilled to know Joe has improved & pray all will continue to go well. What gorgeous Fall scenery you have. I am so envious. Last year we went south much too early in the season & missed all the lovely Autumn colors. We vowed this year would be different so here we are in Pennsylvania & yet the colors continue to elude us.

    1. Thank you Gayle...I hope as you head south from Pennsylvania, you will find lots of color! Will you be traveling thru the Smokies?

    2. Not this time. The ocean has been calling to Don again. We will make our way south via the Atlantic coastline.

    3. I sure hope that includes a stop in Cape Hatteras...that's the one beach I would love to revisit. We spent almost a month there when we first started our full time RVing life. Joe had to drag me and the pups away...it is very puppy friendly and the beaches are awesome!

    1. Thank you Rick and Kathy. I'm glad you noticed the overcast skies...the higher we climbed, the cloudier it got. When the sun did come out, the colors sure made a pop!

  10. So glad to see your post, Gay. I was just thinking that I needed to email and see how you two are doing. Sorry to hear about the infection but glad all is well now. How great that you and Joe are back on the trail.

I thought this might be a good time of year to visit Moab. Your photos of the aspens are amazing. Love the header!! That photo of the trail covered in yellow leaves is beautiful. Thanks for sharing:)

So good to know you have support around you there in Portal. Still sending prayers your way. Take care!

    1. Thank you Pam...yesterday went great and today is off to a good start too. Just have to stay out of confined public places and no eating out for awhile.
Moab has been beautiful. September and October so far are my favorite months here. There are lots of hiking trails up on the summit and on Geyser Pass... One actually takes you to the top of Mt. Peale at alittle over 12,000 feet...maybe one day we can hike them together!

  14. Oh my gosh, your photos are beautiful. Very high quality. May I ask what camera and lenses you are using? Although we have raised all around the southern Utah/Colarado area, we've not spent time in the La Sals. Just beautiful.

We will have to make a point of boondocking there when we graduate to full-time in 2016. We like your blog. May we follow?

Although we are new at it, our blog is at www.sunrisesandsunsets.us . Please visit.

    Thanks for sharing.
