Tucson, AZ
November 2, 2014
So here we are back in the Grand Canyon State. Tucson is a great choice for a couple of months for one huge reason... nice weather with sunny days and mild nights.
Last Saturday when we pulled out of Moab, it was cold. As we drove south down Main Street, I wasn't so sure about making the move. We were leaving our friends and doctors. But it was cold!
Saturday (11/1) was probably the worst travel day we have ever experienced. Wind was the culprit. Crosswinds at 40-50 mph just about the whole way from Moab to Flagstaff where we stopped to spend the night. Joe spent the better part of the day sawing the steering wheel to keep Belle in her lane.
The dust put a damper on our views this trip...not like in the spring when it was crystal clear! |
Dust was a factor...and I tried to get pictures of huge tumbleweeds crossing the roads, but that didn't work out.
We were glad to call it a day and stop in Flagstaff where the winds howled and the rains poured all night.
Yikes! I thought we were going south... |
Just north of Phoenix... |
Phoenix |
We also started a DIY project... pulled up the carpet in Belle. We are replacing it with an inter-locking vinyl tile. Hope to get an early start in the morning and maybe finish the living/kitchen area.
Cotton fields on I 10... |
It sure is fun taking photos on travel day...the highways and byways...some famous, some not so...
Cowboys rounding up the cows in the median on I 17 between Camp Verde and Phoenix... |
Take care, and...
happy trails!
That wind is why we just kept going and came on into AJ on Friday. I think you got out of Moab at the right time. Seems to be they are going to be part of this Polar stuff coming down. You take such gorgeous pictures. Good luck with the chemo and PET scans. Jim's PET is scheduled for the 19th.
ReplyDeleteAnd prayers with lots of positive thoughts for Jim too!
DeleteI do love taking pictures Sandie...thank you!
Can't wait to see post from your diy. We've been talking about replacing the carpet in our motorhome. Never could understand why they put light colored carpet in it!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I forgot to take before pictures Joan...will see what I can conjure up.
DeleteDo you have slide(s)? Marcia wants something besides carpet, but we wonder about the slide area. --Dave (GoingRvWay.com)
ReplyDeleteHey Dave...yes, we do have slides. Carpet will stay on the slide area which is mostly covered by the sofa and kitchen table/chairs. I have taken pictures and will post later...
DeleteAh wind….the bane of the 'moving house'. We stopped for a day last week to let the wind and snow pass us by…. So glad you're comfortably settled in….. And after all those months without a Target or Walmart, you'll have sensory overload….enjoy !
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! And so right Sue...can't wait for MY Target time!
DeleteNice scenery along your travel route, especially like the rainbow. Looks like there might have been a pot of gold just behind the small hill on the left. I can't imagine traveling far in those windy conditions. I've heard that wind is a big issue in the southwest. Looking forward to seeing before & after pics of your renovation.
ReplyDeleteWe were definitely on a mission to get to Tucson...not sure we will plan that close in the future Gayle. I'm thinking we have been pretty lucky in past travels with the wind.
DeleteThat was a beautiful rainbow! So clear and bright!
When those winds are ripping close to 50, we're hanging out in a park someplace waiting for it to go by. At least now you're settled in for a few months and don't have to worry about it. Love the last road shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks Teri. We probably should have just pulled over and waited. Joe had an appointment we didn't want to miss so we slowly trudged on. We shouldn't have planned it so tight!
DeleteFighting wind those strong cross winds is not fun at all. If they are too bad we just call it quite and wait for them to go away.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the Tucson area.
We should have done just that George! Next time...
DeleteWe do like Tucson...especially this wonderful weather!
You were brave traveling with the wind. We had those winds here, also. Sure did rock and roll the house on wheels. You got some awesome photos as you traveled. We enjoy Lazydays. You'll have to let us know if there are many changes since the sale of the park to KOA. We'll probably head there in Feb.
ReplyDeleteHope Joe is happy with his new doctors. Good luck with the next treatment. Thinking of the two of you and sending prayers your way:)
We can't see any big changes In Lazydays Pam...just more yellow. Beginning in Jan., monthly rates will go down and a charge for electricity will be added. Sites have stayed the same. If all goes well with Joe, we plan to head to SoCal in Jan and Yuma in Feb. We were quite impressed with Dr. Chen. She was very informative...we have sure been lucky!
DeleteWonderful travel photos! We have yet to experience high winds on a travel day, thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are settle din for a spell and I hope you like the new doctors and all goes well for this next stage.
Thank you Lisa...
DeleteGay, very glad to hear you like the new doctor, that in itself means a lot. The doctors in the Tucson area took great care of our friends Gay and Don. They were very caring. I hope things go well and you are on the road again soon. Can't wait to see how your floor turns out. Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteWe worked hard on the floor yesterday...it's not going as fast as we had thought it would. We were held up by a tricky cut in a corner. Hopefully today will be better!
DeleteThank you Sheila!
Oh yeah, I do remember those nasty winds when we were in NM. Due to it our trip to Carlsbad Caverns got cancelled.
ReplyDeleteI particularly am mesmerized with your last pictures of mountains, were those near Tucson already or still up north near flagstaff ?
Hello MonaLisa, the two pictures you mentioned were somewhere between Monument Valley and Flagstaff. Aren't they pretty? I didn't enhance or change any pictures on this post...
DeleteSuch beautiful pictures! Glad y'all made it safely. I'm not surprised about the diy project, y'all are always up to something. So glad daddy-t liked his new doctor and everything is right on schedule. Keep us posted. We love y'all and miss y'all so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe love you too!
DeleteWelcome back to Tucson!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures and yes those winds are a horror. Have a wonderful winter.
Thank you JO! We are loving this weather...
DeleteThe only snow I've seen while full-timing was in Flagstaff. I woke up - hey, I thought Arizona was hot! It was pretty fun, actually, and then I got on the road again. Your photos are beautiful, but be careful driving in that kind of wind. That's how I got tendonitis in both hands - driving from San Diego to Arizona in super winds. I wore a splint for over 6 months on my thumb. From that point on, I pull over wait it out if the winds are too strong.
