Corona de Tucson
Back at the oasis...we had a beautiful start to the week. Mornings began with lots of white puffy clouds, blue skies, low 90s and no humidity.
Expected darker clouds and welcomed showers rolled in during the late afternoons...typical summer in the desert.
We can always smell the rain headed our way. |
We enjoyed our early morning walks.
A couple of mornings we pulled weeds in the front yard. It's a small price to pay for the rain. Our reward...
I am always amazed when I see these hummingbird moths and their really long tongues. |
We had made plans to go to the Tucson Botanical Gardens for the concert tonight. We both enjoy acoustic guitar and there were two guitarists performing for the Sunset Saturday outdoor event.
With flash floods and severe storms forecast, we will just enjoy a quiet evening at home instead. This mornings backyard photo !
I only captured a few bird photos this this week.
That's a wrap for the third week in August. My how time flies.
Until next time,
HAPPY TRAILS !
The little fella taking advantage of your birdbath is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThe T-storms have made the OH news, where it was reported 7" in a few hours.
Went to a sweet corn festival today. We are freezing a couple ears and if the opportunity presents, we can do a personal taste against the Olathe sweet corn.
Glad Joe is doing well and you are both enjoying those morning hikes.
Thank you Jeff! I don’t think we have had near 7 inches for the entire monsoon season this year, but it did rain most of yesterday and it’s been a nice steady rain today. There has been a lot of run-off from the mountains and washes and creeks are full. A taste test sounds fun. My money is on the Olathe…👍. That being said we had some pretty good corn a couple of weeks ago that Joe grilled.
DeleteThat bedraggled bird is hilarious!! And Jack with his ball is adorable! I saw something on FB which said Cochise county has had 17 inches of rain so far this year!! Here's hoping Joe is finished with the dermatologist until fall and that in the fall he needs no more MOHS!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Janna! Jack lives to play ball, eat and snuggle. Fingers crossed for Joe…NO MORE MOHs for him after Wednesdays surgery on his arm. That’s a lot of rain…so awesome! Pima County is up to 12.9 inches. Hoping for several more inches between now and the end of September.
DeleteI have never heard of a hummingbird moth, very cool!
ReplyDeleteThat wet bird looks hilarious!
Thanks for checking in guys…it’s a real treat to see a hummingbird moth which is the common name for the genus Hemaris. There are several varieties of these, but this is the only type I have seen…here and in Moab.
DeleteHave to agree with others, the little bathing bird is hysterical! Your backyard gets the most lovely skies - your own slide show :-) Jack looks so full of joy. Hope you didn't get any flashflood damage at your place or your walking area.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jodee ! Jack is definitely in his happy zone when playing ball. Im really glad it is a little cooler and he can play outside otherwise we HAVE to play in the house. No flood damage at our place or in the neighborhood. We enjoyed a nice steady rain all day Saturday. Local news reported that Sabino Canyon and Catalina SP were closed and roads and bridges all over town were impassable.
DeleteWe certainly have seen strong isolated storms. Our local weather said we haven't seen anything like this summer here in ten years. AZ usually gets the rain and we just watch the clouds head up east of us. But we are finally having spring and the desert bushes are finally green and the wildflowers and cactus are starting to bloom. It's so nice to see the green in the distance. I love that you include photos of Jack with his ball. He is such a dear. Wishing Joe success with his new surgeries.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam! I remember on one of our visits that Jack was pretty persistent in getting John to play with him. It’s funny how I always dreaded the endless rainy days in Georgia, but here rainy days are quite special. I’m glad you are getting some of the moisture in BC. There was a special on the local news about Lake Mead…
DeleteThanks for another update on your lives. I always love to see the grand views out behind your house and the dogs enjoying themselves there. I hope we'll get to see you and your sweet oasis this winter!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue and thank you. That sounds great…we would love to see you, Dave and Lewis as well. It’s been too long!
