Friday's Adventure

During our several visits to the doggie park, we met Lilly. There is a picture of Lilly and Sally in an earlier post. Lilly's human parents are Steve and Barbara. As it turns out, Steve has a Harley and invited us for a ride. Yesterday, we went with him to South Hero...an island in Lake Champlain. The secnery along the way was very pretty.



There are lots of farms in Vermont...mostly dairy farms.





We passed several "lawn sales" along the way.

The lake shoreline is lined with homes and boats of all sizes and shapes.

We stopped at Hero's Welcome for lunch....a great bakery and cafe. You order at the store and can either eat inside or walk across the street and eat by the water. We opted for the fresh air. The weather here is so nice. Thanks Steve for a fun day!

Lake Champlain Maritime Museum

 Joe and I rode the Harley to the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum last Wednesday. It is in Vergennes, VT. It's about an 80 mile round trip ride from our home. We were both pleasantly surprised at how nice the museum is and the history it has to offer about the Lake area.

The first exhibit was the Schoolhouse Gallery. The schoolhouse was moved from Panton, VT and was built in 1818. It was the first building moved to LCMMand exhibits the cultures on teh Lake from 1609.

The Hazelett Watercraft Center exhibits a collection of dugout and bark canoes, kayaks, rowing skiffs, and other small watercraft. The centerpiece of the exhibit is the 1902 ice yatch...Storm King.



Steam to Gasoline Exhibit... Exhiibit included a steamboat cabin (the doors were beautiful), models of lighthouses in Vermont, early powerboats, engines and outboard motors.



A walk to the North Harbor...

...where a fleet of vessels are on exhibit...you can step aboard the working replica gunboat Philadelphia II.

Boatbuilding...introduces boats built on Lake Champlain over the centuries.

LUNCH! Great little place at the Marina just down from the museum.

Two planes landed in the field behind the Red Mill with people coming to eat lunch...pretty neat!

We had a great time!
