Circle Pines KOA
Williams, AZ
August 3, 2025
Once again, we turned the page on the calendar and August begins. But before we get settled into the last full month of summer, I wanted to share a few photos from July that didn't get posted. I almost called this post Grandma Hobbies. I read an article that these hobbies include crafting, cooking, and/or enjoying nature.
The article stated there has been a resurgence in sewing, knitting, gardening, and birdwatching. These are just a few hobbies mentioned on a long list of granny era hobbies that keep our minds busy and soothes the soul. A survey referred to in the article revealed that a majority of young folks between 18 and 28 have acquired at least one grandma hobby. Kudos for them!
It seems a discovery has been made that that these activities might just be the best kept secret to better mental health. Being a Gigi, and having friends that are grandmas, we can all agree to these benefits. Felting, knitting, gardening, and long drives in the middle of nowhere looking for the "wonders of nature" are only a few of the activities I enjoy reading about in the blog-o-sphere. Hobbies we all began before we were grandmas and continue to enjoy.
Birdwatching is one of my favorite things to do!

July ended on a beautiful note...we had a monsoon storm that rolled in about 5:30. I am not sure if the 104 degrees had anything to do with the intensity, but it was so wonderful. It rained and rained. Lucy and I went from window to window and front yard to backyard to watch and enjoy. The rains were accompanied by frequent lightening strikes, winds and flash flooding.

Friday dawned with vaca plans...a nice getaway to the mountains and Saturday the wheels were rolling.

The KOA isn't called Circle Pines for nothing. I love the pines, especially long-leaf pines.

Gorgeous captures. The birds, the views, fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! Thank you so much for the nice compliment. We love sitting on the patio and watching the birds. Sometimes I have my camera and other times I just rock and enjoy.
DeleteSo exciting! A vacation in Williams--good for you guys! Are the temps much better than in Tucson? Grandma hobbies, huh! I guess I fit that description although I much prefer Mimi to Grandma! Love your bird photos and that sweet Lucy--I really can't wait to meet her! So glad you had such a good rain storm!
ReplyDeleteHi Janna. Joe and I have never been to Williams. It’s fun to go to new to us places…especially the “historic little towns”. Yes, I love your knitting, gardening and cooking blogs and Mimi works just great. It is cooler here by about 12 degrees with a nice breeze. And I can’t wait to meet Kaycee. I just have a feeling they will be good friends too!
DeleteSpectacular bird photos, Gay! We, too, are heading out tomorrow for our summer heat break to Bryce Canyon. It's about 25 degrees cooler. The nights are especially cold. It was only 40 degrees there this morning. I can't wait. Enjoy visiting with you friends.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam…and thank you! What a very nice surprise to hear from you! I LOVE Bryce Canyon…it has always been one of my favorite places to go. Those temps make for some great hiking weather! It’s always fun to catch up with friends…
DeleteIt looks like Lucy is enjoying life as much as you are! Hope you enjoy your get away and have a quiet and relaxing August!
ReplyDeleteHi Jim…and thank you! Lucy LOVES everything except the vacuum cleaner! Life is good for her and wherever we are, she is happy. I can’t believe it is August!
DeleteI was never crafty until my gramma years so I have to concur with your article! Your bird captures are wonderful. Our hummers lack those bright colors - what a beauty!! That pic of the monsoon downpour is epic. You should frame it. Lucy is too adorable with those curls. Williams is a great spot with some fun places to get out in the Jeep, and Anna's Canyon Cafe has the best green chili!
ReplyDeleteHi Jodee….thank you! We did a walk yesterday on Route 66 in Williams. I will definitely check out Anna’s when we go back. Our GP doctor back at home said to be sure and see Williams at night with all the neon lights! The hummer with the colors is a broad-billed and we don’t see them regularly like the black-chinned ones. It was a treat to capture it. I love how soft Lucy’s curls are…just like Tessa’s.
DeleteWell, I just have to ask. DId you go to the Poozeum in Williams? You always have the most beautiful bird pictures. My daughter-in-law has put up bird cameras and feeders in their back yard so I had to chuckle reading about grammar hobbies. And you know how much I love cloud pictures. Wow.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sandie…thank you! Since my eyes are not so sharp anymore and I can’t Xstitch, birding and my flower pots have become my favorite gramma hobbies. No, we haven’t been to Poozeum and Joe only laughed out loud when I suggested it so I’m not sure if we will make it there. I do remember your post about the museum. I was lucky to catch the rain cloud at the perfect time…as you already know, they change/move quickly.
DeleteWe too love our birdwatching!
ReplyDeleteHi John...it's very entertaining!
