Charming Coronado

According to archeological findings, the La Jollan Indians were seasonal visitors to the island we call Coronado over 1,000 years ago. 



In 1602, when Sebastian Vizcaino (a Spanish explorer), sailed past the rocky islands he named them Las Yslas Coronades. His crude map of the bay provided the world with it's first picture of Coronado. 

 "The Islands Crowned" have a rich history and long time-line of events with results being the elegant resort beach community we can enjoy today. The Navy played an important part in the islands history. The Navy first set up camp in 1911 and by 1917 had established a Naval Air Station. In 1963, Coronado was granted the name of "The Birthplace of Naval Aviation". 

Additionally, in the early 1900s, the community boomed with new residents building homes and businesses.



Our morning visit was two-fold. First, a stop by Hollands Bicycles. They have been part of the community for over 90 years. The shop is well stocked with all types of bicycles, and a large selection of accessories. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. 
















Then we walked. There is definitely a slow pace on the island. Yummy smells from the cafes fill the air, folks greet each other with a smile and a "good morning" and its pleasantly quiet. The sidewalks we meandered were colorful, peaceful, and inviting. I had a great time taking pictures!
