"The American Nile"

Cocopah RV Resort
February 8, 2014
Yuma, AZ

Our morning walk...just as the sun was peaking behind the mountains.

And then, the reflection in the Colorado River.

The river travels 1,450 miles from the Rockies before it empties into the Gulf of California...thru seven U.S. states and two Mexican states... is known for its dramatic canyons...

...and is a vital source of water for agriculture.

We stopped and watched as the Long-billed Curlew were having breakfast...

Shhh! If I'm really quiet, I'll get first dibs on breakfast!
Forget quiet...I had better hurry!

Open wide....

I saw it first!

Later in the day, we stopped for a stroll down Main Street...

And were treated to a beautiful sunset to end the day...

The Doves were calling it a day...

and the bunnies were coming out to play!

Until next time, take care and

enjoy!

First Walk at Cocopah

Cocopah RV and Golf Resort
Yuma, AZ
February 5-6, 2014

Yesterday morning we were wide awake early...both of us excited about our days travel to meet our friends Ronnie and Carol and of course, their cute little puppy Cooper.
And we were going somewhere new. What a great life this is!

It was a pretty easy ride...no major wind or dust storms...all on interstate roads so we made good time. I love travel days for several reasons.

Aside from the excitement of just rollin' down the road in our home, there are new sites to enjoy and its a great time for planning. It's hard to believe, but we are already thinking about 2015.  Not by any means are we wishing away 2014! We plan to enjoy every day we have as much as possible!

So here we are at Cocopah...all settled in for a month. Cocopah Resort is situated along the Colorado River on 300 acres.

The resort is divided into two sections...those owning pets and those not. We are nestled in on Manito, site 796.

The Tan Clan is quite happy...

The pet exercise area is 2.5 acres of beautiful green grass.

Sally is our troubled child. We adopted her in July 2010 and our vet guessed she was 21/2 years old. She has been an important part of our family all this time but is just now asserting herself...

Joe and I were more than happy when Ronnie and Carol asked last night, "What time do you want to go walking in the morning?" It's been awhile for us. Not that we have been lazy, just not walking.

It was still on the cool side as we headed out at 8:30 for what turned out to be an hour and a half walk around the resort...
Did you know that Yuma is the winter vegetable capital of the US? Well, we are surrounded by fields...some just being planted,

and some almost ready to be picked like this romaine lettuce. Miles of lettuce... We saw celery and broccoli too.

Golfing is a big thing here. There were already so many people out on the golf course early this morning. We are not golfers, but you might be.

The Colorado River...

The Great Egret...

And a "new to me" bird...the Long-billed Curlew. All About Birds (allaboutbirds.org) says this is the largest shorebird. Their bill is best adapted for capturing shrimp  and crabs living in deep burrows on tidal mudflats or for burrowing earthworms.

We are so happy to be here... until next time,

 take care and...
 enjoy!

P.S.

Cooper sure puts a smile on my face!
