The Up Side...

February 23, 2022

Corona de Tucson

On the up side of the week, we were most excited to learn Joe only had 2 (and not the usual 6) biopsies that came back positive...yipee !  Surgeries have been scheduled for next week.

On the up side, we had a great morning walking/birding in Madera Canyon with Randy.

We stopped to watch the deer...

The creek was flowing, the birds were singing, the deer were enjoying breakfast, the sky was a bright blue and the warm sun was wonderful.

On the up side, I got a jump start to spring cleaning.  It has been almost a year since we moved into our new home.  Cleaning windows is a once a year chore I do not look forward to and the sooner I can scratch it off the list, the better !

I spent a rather chilly morning inside cleaning ALL the blinds and windows.  Screens still have to be removed and the outside done, but I don't mind that so much.

On the up side, it rained...always a good day to have rain in the desert !  Only this day, we had to head north of Tucson for me to get a haircut.  Rainy days are much more fun when we can stay at home !

On the up side, we spent the afternoon yesterday at the vets.  It was Dover's turn.  For a rather long time, she has had a small skin tag on her right eye lid, but in the last two weeks it has grown and become worrisome to her.  We wanted it checked as well as having her yearly check-up.  After listening to Dover's heart, Dr. Huang asked if we had ever been told Dover has an arrhythmia...the answer was "no".  X-rays were taken that revealed an enlarged heart and her subsequent EKG was abnormal.

That's a lot to take in when your pup has always been healthy and had no issues for 15 years.   Now we wait on a report from a canine cardiologist on recommendations as well as the lab results on her bloodwork.  The up side to all of this...we love our vet and the Animal Care Center of Green Valley.

Life is good...

I got a fuzzy photo of one of the coyotes that was on the other side of the fairway.

Birds always put a smile on my face.

The afternoon sun fills the kitchen with light and warmth.

And there is always an adventure around the corner.

Until next time,

HAPPY TRAILS !

  1. A lovely post of up sides! So much to be grateful for. Bummer Joe has more surgeries, but certainly better than his norm! We really need to get over to Madera Canyon - love the little riparian spot in the rocks. Hopefully Dover's issue is easily treated. Getting old isn't for sissies :-) Your corner boulder pic looks like a large and lovely cougar face to me. Her nose is the bump at the bottom left with an ear at the top.

    1. I see it too Jodee…it’s no wonder Ezra has such a creative eye for things! Tells me I need to to slow down a bit and observe more! Thanks for the well wishes for sweet Dover. Hope to hear today or tomorrow. If you decide to visit Madera Canyon, please let us know…we always enjoy walking there and your company!

  2. Well 2 out of six is certainly better news! So sorry to hear about Dover's issues--our pups are growing old. Washing windows is a chore, I try to wash ours a couple times a year but don't always get it done at both houses. This season in AZ I washed the windows and the very next day it rained--I quit! Your photos are lovely!

    1. Thanks Janna! Do you find that the older you get, the more unpleasant some “chores” are? It’s funny because I don’t mind general house keeping or even big projects like painting, but for one reason or another, blinds and windows are just not my thing. I always say I will do better and thank goodness, life goes on!

  3. Good news for you and Joe!, sorry the news with Dover is not as good.
Madera Canyon looks like a great place to explore and enjoy the critters that call it home.
Window washing? We had Fran's mom with us the last several years of her life. She was a window washing wizard! Loved to be outside washing windows, Fran now takes pride in the task.

    1. Thank you Jeff! If you and Fran are ever in the area, Proctor Trail in Madera Canyon is a beautiful and mostly easy walk. šŸ¤žthat Joe will help with the outside by removing screens and cleaning them while I do the windows. You know what they say about best laid plans though so I won’t hold my breath!

  5. Fingers crossed all goes well with Joe's "only two" surgeries. Yes, so much better than six. Fingers crossed for only good news from the vet about Dover. Such a sweet puppy:) Looks like a beautiful winter day to enjoy what nature has to offer. Life certainly is good.
