A pretty sunrise this week... |
Moving into May is such a great time of year. There is a natural shift from spring to summer when the days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer. The past few days we have pretty much been homebodies except for the usual errands. I needed a few frames and Hobby Lobby seems to be the go to place for those. But the real reason is it is across the street from our favorite hamburger joint. It isn't only the big juicy burgers that we enjoy. We both gobble up way more fries than we need and I do have a hankering for their sweet tea.
It has been about six months since we walked the Lost Barrio warehouse district in Tucson. Gather was open for the May exhibit of antique and vintage finds that only the folks at Gather know how to display. It takes a couple of walks thru the old warehouse venue...looking left and right and up and down. This months showing was so colorful, bright and cheery.
Flowers and everything to do with flowers was the theme...inside and outside. Baskets all shapes and sizes, stands all shapes and sizes, pots all shapes and sizes, pictures of flowers, throw pillows with flowers, dishes with flowers, lamps with flowers and the list goes on and on.
Lunch was at BK's for the yummiest guac ever...
We have had a hodgepodge of weather thus far in May.
A nice rainy day on Sunday was perfect for being lazy and it wasn't just rainy off and on, it was the coldest day in May since 2019. Sweet ! Some afternoons, the winds pick up so morning walks with Lucy work best. Im so proud of her...we are up to 2 miles and some days she is really good on the leash. I read that 5 minutes per every month of age is a good guide with 6-9 months 30 to 45 minutes. She will find a shady spot and lay down for a a minute or two. It is interesting to note that I read puppy bones are still growing and will not be physically mature until around a year old for small pups (18 to 24 months for large dogs). Puppy bones have soft "growth plates" at the ends where new bone is produced as the puppies grow. The plates are not as sturdy as mature bones so they are easier to damage. Even worse, an injured growth plate can stop the bone from growing early.
Most of the time, we stay on the sidewalks...

and this week, Lucy had her first cart path walk. |
Joe had to make a quick run to our neighborhood Ace Hardware one morning. Lucy and I went too. She has friends there and likes their treats ! I saw these cute little frogs and brought two of them home.
Lucy likes the rockers too and doesn't miss any chance to grab one for herself.
We welcomed the Black-headed Grosbeaks this week. They have been very busy at the feeders. We aren't sure if they are migrating thru or breeding as we are in the area for both.

What a cheerful blog post!! Love those blooming cactus photos and always love seeing photos of Lucy. I sure hope we can get the two pups together next season! Those frog solar lights are adorable--I'm going to look at our local ACE and see if they have them. I too love a rocking chair, our MT outdoor chairs rock--they are still stored in the garage! :) :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning Janna! It’s so hard to think that something so prickly can also be so beautiful as the cacti. I was happy the tiny little volunteer prickly pear took root and has grown so much the past couple of years. I suppose I can thank the birds for that! I would be happy to stop by our ACE and get you a couple of the cheery little frogs if they still have them and you can’t find them there. And YES…we definitely need to get the girls together…the human girls and the puppy girls…for a visit next winter!
DeleteLooks like things are brightening up in Tuscon.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Lucy loving the lifestyle.
Stay Safe and Enjoy the adventures.
It's about time.
Good morning Rick! May is moving right along and this time of year, the desert is so pretty and the weather is so nice. Lucy is a little ball of energy and smart and often gets herself in trouble, but we sure do love her!
DeleteWe do have a 5-Guys here and their fries do look yummy, I'll have to stop in some time. The Sonoran dog looks delish and messy!
ReplyDeleteSo much color in your oasis! and so many visitors to enjoy. I think the hawk is giving you the stink eye ;)
Good morning Jeff! Joe and I both love the burgers and fries at 5 Guys. We have tried In-n-Out a couple of times once in SD and once here and they don’t compare. Nothing like a big, juicy, messy burger! And for some reason, getting good sweet, cold tea is a challenge in this part of the country. Isn’t the hawk a beauty? I laughed out loud a few mornings ago when I saw a giant black crow in the birdbath…he was hanging out on both sides, but I wasn’t quick enough to get a photo.
DeleteI recognize those Five Guys fries! They are Dave's absolute favorite (he's a connoisseur of french fries!) Love all the flowers in your yard, no wonder the birds find it such a welcoming oasis. A crow! I'd love to find a way to invite them to my yard without also inviting four legged critters to eat the crow's delicacies (i.e. peanuts in the shell, etc.) I understand that they often start to bring you gifts if you make them welcome! Smart to take it a little easy on those walks. Taos suffered from bouts of Pano in those growing bones.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue! 5 Guys fries and malt vinegar are the best! Our little oasis was bare when we bought our home. We have added 5 trees which are all growing and doing well. We don’t have a drip system, but we water them regularly. All the trees we planted have blooms which I really enjoy and so do the birds. We see those huge crows a lot flying overhead or perched in the pine trees. They are smart birds and I do hope he returns, but we are partial to all the lizards and tarantulas we have living among us here. I do remember you sharing that Taos had growing pains. Lucy is our first and youngest puppy to take care of so I am constantly reading. I might be going a little overboard researching everything!
DeleteYour sky pictures are always so beautiful! Lucy sure looks like she loves life, I imagine she brings you many smiles and laughs every day.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Jim, thank you. The Arizona sky was one of many reasons we decided to move here. It never disappoints. Lucy is quite the entertainer…there is never a dull moment as long as she is awake. Thank goodness for naps,
DeleteI am looking forward to getting back to Gather. I've only been at Christmas and can't wait to see how different it looks! Lucy is just a delight, and too sweet at the window keeping an eye on Joe. As always your birds and flowers are wonderful. Surprisingly few birds here in Santa Fe, but I may be missing them while looking at other things :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Jodee…thank you! Gather was especially colorful and cheery this month with all the flowers. But Christmas is my favorite with fall a very close second. Of course no visit to Gather is complete without lunch somewhere in the city. Lucy keeps her eye on everything. It certainly is different for us as the other pups we adopted were all rescue pups and older…Sally was 2 - 21/2 years old when we found her. We have enjoyed the Grosebeaks…they are still here and very active at the feeders. 🤞they stay!
